Ski Lodge is a two-way mirror into the mind of Andrew Marr: multi-instrumentalist, expressionist, and the newest member of the Dovecote Records family. Initially formulated as an outlet for songs of Marr's that were unmatched to the aesthetic of his former band (The Clementines), Ski Lodge became his sole interest after he made the decision to prioritize authorship and focus on his own songwriting.
After a brief stint at the University of Rhode Island, he dropped anchor in West Palm, Florida, where he began work on the framing of what would eventually become Ski Lodge. Marr seems never to have traveled far from the ocean, and this unwavering bond is reflected subtly and to great effect in the project.
His inward-looking, earnest surf pop suggests, instead of Summer, a longing for Summer on an early Spring day. By channeling influences ranging from The Morning Benders, to Arcade Fire and The Smiths into the sound of The Strokes and Vampire Weekend, Marr manages to bypass the epic, opting for a more brassy, lilting croon. It's music about forgiveness, youth, and staying on the long, meandering path toward an eventual home.
