Bad Pop is an indie rock band fronted by Chris Connelly and formed in 2015 from the ashes of Hot Panda. This Canadian band sounds furious and refreshing, a deluge of raw punk rock energy, warm analog psychedelia, and cheeky nihilistic musings of living under the strictures of late-stage, techno über capitalism.

After releasing their debut self-titled album, with peaked at #21 on the CMJ charts in the US and #8 on Earshot! Bad Pop toured the UK, Europe, and North America playing festivals like SXSW, The Great Escape, Reeperbahn & even the Barcardi Weekender in India. They’ve been played by MistaJam, Huw Stephens & Phil Taggert on BBC Radio 1 and by Gary Powell from The Libertines on Boogaloo Radio.

They followed it up with two complementary EPs “Dark Metal” (June 2021) & “Psych Pedal” (early 2022) that were both recorded using Zoom and a good internet connection during lockdown while a pandemic gripped the world. If “Dark Metal” is an angsty, punk rock brick through a window then “Psych Pedal” is its drugged-out sibling, still chock-full of nihilistic commentary but more likely to drop psychedelics, sink into the couch and laugh at the absurdity of the world. It was created with reckless abandon and complete disregard for the rules of musical engineering. It’s a collection of sad and cheeky songs for people sick of scrolling on their phones but are scrolling anyway.
